About Pedro
Pedro Roque Urra was born in the city of Pinar del Rio, Cuba in 1960. He studied design, painting and sculpture under two great artists: Juan Suarez and Pedro Suarez. It was with Pedro Suarez that Roque collaborated on many different projects, which solidified his artistic formation.
As of 2006, Pedro Roque has established himself in Louisville, Kentucky. He integrated himself into the cultural fabric of the city, participating in exhibitions as well as imparting his knowledge in classes for sculptures and metal soldering.
The materials Pedro uses in his paintings are oil and acrylic; for his sculptures, he uses wood, metal, and clay. With the spatula and paintbrush, he creates original textures. He also applies similar effects to his metallic sculptures, offering a unique perspective in both cases.
The imaginative artistic expression encloses the viewer into a world of intense imagery featuring love, humility, sincerity, and ingenuity. Occasionally Pedro addresses the subject of aggression, solely to acknowledge the alarms and threats that we always encounter in life. His surrealistic style brings one to a very intimate reflection that captivates and invites the viewer to participate in the mysterious aura of his work.
Pedro’s works are found in private collections in countries such as Germany, Italy, France, Spain, Japan, England, Mexico, Cuba, and the United States.
